The Alberta Advantage Immigration Program (AAIP) has confirmed that, starting April 7, 2026, foreign nationals submitting a Worker Expression of Interest (WEOI) will be required to pay a new $135 fee, a step that ends the previously free submission process and applies across every worker stream and pathway — including the Alberta Opportunity Stream, the Alberta Express Entry Stream (covering the Accelerated Tech Pathway, the Law Enforcement Pathway and priority sector draws), the Dedicated Health Care Pathways, the Rural Renewal Stream and the Tourism and Hospitality Stream — while remaining entirely separate from the existing $1,500 application fee; the change follows the February 25, 2026 addition of new wage and hours-of-work fields to the WEOI form and comes as more than 44,000 WEOIs sit in the selection pool, with Alberta holding a 2026 allocation of 6,403 nominations from IRCC, of which 1,475 had been issued as of April 1 and 4,928 remain available, with upcoming draws expected to prioritize health care, technology, construction, manufacturing, aviation, agriculture and occupations tied to designated Rural Renewal communities.

On March 25, 2026, the Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program (OINP) held five targeted invitation rounds, issuing a total of 1,112 Invitations to Apply (ITAs) to candidates currently in Canada who hold valid work or study permits and have qualifying job offers from eligible employers. The invitations covered the Foreign Worker, International Student, and In-Demand Skills categories under the Employer Job Offer streams, across the Greater Toronto Area, Southwestern Ontario, Central Ontario (excluding the GTA), Eastern Ontario, and Northern Ontario. Over the past three weeks, the Alberta Advantage Immigration Program (AAIP) announced results from six provincial immigration draws held between February 26 and March 16, 2026. A total of 1,447 invitations were issued across several streams and pathways, including the Alberta Opportunity Stream, Rural Renewal Stream, Alberta Express Entry Priority Sectors pathway for healthcare, the Accelerated Tech pathway, and the Dedicated Health Care Pathway outside Express Entry. The latest round of draws shows Alberta is continuing to prioritize rural labour shortages, healthcare staffing needs, and the attraction of technology talent in 2026. As of March 17, Alberta had received 6,403 nomination spaces for the year, of which 1,127 had already been used, leaving 5,276 spots remaining.

On March 18, 2026, the Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program (OINP) conducted its third round of invitations of the year and completed six targeted draws on the same day, issuing a total of 1,243 Invitations to Apply (ITAs). Among them, 1,107 ITAs were issued through the Master’s Graduate and PhD Graduate streams, marking the first invitations under these two streams since September 17, 2024. The draws mainly targeted international student graduates and foreign workers with Canadian work experience in specific National Occupational Classification (NOC) occupations. At the same time, Ontario also issued 136 ITAs through its Employer Job Offer streams. These invitations came as the province moves ahead with a major restructuring of its immigration system, with several current categories scheduled to be revoked on May 30, 2026, and replaced by a new framework.

Canada has recently introduced two new facilitated work permit pathways under the International Experience Canada (International Experience Canada, or IEC) program for young people from Taiwan and Portugal. These are the TGPI program for Taiwanese youth and the Inov Contacto program for Portuguese youth. Both new pathways offer employer-specific work permits and include tailored arrangements in terms of program structure, financial support, and eligibility requirements. At the same time, applicants from Taiwan and Portugal may still continue to apply under the regular criteria for the IEC Young Professionals category. The new policy suggests that Canada is further expanding youth talent exchange and short-term employment cooperation with specific countries and regions through bilateral youth mobility arrangements.

On February 6, 2026, Ontario published its 2026 nomination allocation for the Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program (OINP). The federal government has granted Ontario 14,119 nominations for 2026, an increase of roughly 31% from the 10,750 nominations allocated in 2025. As of January 23, 2026, a total of 10,689 ITAs had been issued to participating countries and territories, out of a 2026 Working Holiday quota of 42,127. While 35,283 spots remain available, the candidate pool already stands at 34,539, suggesting a faster-moving and potentially more competitive season. For young travellers and early-career professionals, the Working Holiday work permit is often the quickest legal route to work in Canada without requiring a Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA) and typically without the need for a pre-arranged job offer—making the first round’s pace an important signal for how quickly quotas may shrink in 2026.

Ontario has recently made critical adjustments to its Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program (OINP) aimed at lowering barriers for internationally trained physicians. Effective January 1, 2026, self-employed physicians working under specific National Occupation Classification (NOC) codes are no longer required to provide an employer job offer or a letter from a provincial health authority when applying for the OINP "Employer Job Offer: Foreign Worker stream." This move makes Ontario currently the only province in Canada with such a targeted physician immigration pathway that does not mandate a job offer. This update coincides with Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) announcing the addition of 5,000 extra Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) spaces outside of the 2026-2028 Immigration Levels Plan. The federal government aims to admit 91,500 new permanent residents through the PNP by the end of 2026 to help alleviate labor shortages across the provinces.
