Canada Changes How Super Visa Income Requirements for Parents and Grandparents Are Calculated, with New Rules Taking Effect on March 31
The Canadian federal government announced in Ottawa on March 20, 2026, that it will change how income requirements are calculated for the Parents and Grandparents Super Visa starting March 31, 2026. The new policy, to be implemented by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC), is intended to make it easier for more families to qualify while ensuring that family members receive adequate financial support during their stay in Canada. Under the updated rules, a host’s income will no longer be assessed based only on the tax year immediately preceding the application. Instead, hosts may qualify by meeting the requirement in either of the two preceding tax years. In addition, if the host and co-signer have already met the required minimum percentage of income, the income of the visiting parent or grandparent may also be used to make up the remaining amount. IRCC said that all applications already in processing as of March 31, 2026, as well as those submitted on or after that date, will be assessed under the new criteria.

Latest Express Entry CEC Draw Issues 4,000 Invitations, With Score Dropping to the Lowest Level in 18 Months
On March 17, 2026, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) issued 4,000 Invitations to Apply (ITAs) for permanent residence through an Express Entry draw targeting Canadian Experience Class (CEC) candidates. The minimum Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score required in this round was 507, marking a further decline compared with recent CEC draws and representing the lowest cut-off score for the category in the past 18 months. As Canada continues in 2026 to focus more heavily on candidates already in the country, applicants with Canadian work experience are emerging as one of the main beneficiary groups in the Express Entry system.

Statistics Canada Hiring About 32,000 Census Jobs Nationwide; Work Permit Holders Eligible to Apply
Statistics Canada has launched a large-scale hiring campaign for the 2026 Census of Population, bringing on roughly 32,000 workers across Canada. Eligible applicants include work permit holders who meet residency and age requirements. The main openings are for enumerators and crew leaders, paid hourly with certain reimbursable expenses. For those planning to pursue permanent residence through Express Entry, some positions may provide supplemental Canadian work experience—but whether hours count toward the Canadian Experience Class depends on the role’s TEER level, NOC classification, and how closely actual duties align with NOC requirements.

Canada’s Express Entry Holds Another CEC Draw: CRS Drops to 509 With 6,000 ITAs Issued
Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) issued 6,000 Invitations to Apply (ITAs) to Canadian Experience Class (CEC) candidates in an Express Entry draw held on January 21, 2026. The minimum Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score was 509, and eligibility also depended on a profile creation cut-off: candidates had to have created their Express Entry profile before 4:35 a.m. Coordinated Universal Time (UTC) on October 29, 2025. This was the fourth Express Entry draw of 2026 and the second large-scale CEC selection this year. Within the first month of 2026, IRCC has already issued 14,000 ITAs to CEC candidates across two draws, contributing to noticeable shifts in the composition of the candidate pool. So far in 2026, Express Entry draws have been limited to two categories—CEC and the Provincial Nominee Program (PNP)—reflecting a continued emphasis on applicants already in Canada.

This draw marks the second-largest single draw in the history of the CEC program, with the minimum Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score dropping to 511—lower than any draw recorded throughout 2025. Combined with the Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) draw held earlier this week, the federal government has issued over 8,500 invitations in the first full week of 2026, demonstrating a clear policy priority to retain workers already established in the Canadian labour market to meet annual immigration targets.
