Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) conducted an Express Entry draw on March 5, 2026, marking the fourteenth round of Express Entry selections this year. What sets this draw apart is that it represents the very first selection under the newly established Senior Managers with Canadian Work Experience category, with 250 candidates receiving invitations to apply (ITAs).
To be eligible for this draw, candidates were required to meet the following criteria: a minimum Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score of 429, and an Express Entry profile created before 3:10 p.m. Coordinated Universal Time (UTC) on August 19, 2025.
New Category Introduced in February Overhaul
The Senior Managers with Canadian Work Experience category was first announced in February 2026 as part of a comprehensive overhaul of the Express Entry system, which saw three new occupational categories introduced. Under the eligibility requirements for this category, candidates must have accumulated at least 12 months of Canadian work experience within the past three years in one of four senior management occupations classified under Canada's National Occupation Classification (NOC) system:
- senior managers in construction, transportation, production, and utilities
- senior managers in trade, broadcasting, and other services
- senior managers in health, education, social and community services, and membership organizations
- senior managers in financial, communications, and other business services
2026 Draw Trends: Priority Given to In-Canada Candidates
Based on Express Entry draw activity so far in 2026, IRCC's policy focus has clearly shifted toward immigration candidates already present in Canada, especially those holding provincial nominations or possessing Canadian work experience. Among the 14 draws conducted to date, the number of draws by category is as follows:
- Provincial Nominee Program (PNP): 5 draws
- Canadian Experience Class (CEC): 4 draws
- French-language proficiency: 2 draws
- Physicians with Canadian Work Experience: 1 draw
- Healthcare and Social Services: 1 draw
- Senior Managers with Canadian Work Experience: 1 draw
Distribution of Invitations Issued
In terms of the total number of ITAs issued, IRCC has sent out 44,862 invitations so far in 2026, distributed across categories as follows:
- Canadian Experience Class (CEC): 24,000 ITAs
- French-language proficiency: 14,000 ITAs
- Healthcare and Social Services: 4,000 ITAs
- Provincial Nominee Program (PNP): 2,221 ITAs
- Physicians with Canadian Work Experience: 391 ITAs
- Senior Managers with Canadian Work Experience: 250 ITAs
These figures further underscore IRCC's immigration selection strategy for 2026 — the Canadian Experience Class and French-language proficiency categories have received the vast majority of invitations, reflecting the federal government's strong emphasis on local experience and official language proficiency in attracting new immigrants.
